A few days ago the 31st meeting of the SPUG Stuttgart took place in our office in Stuttgart. This time we talked about ‘SharePoint and mobile Access” again, because this meeting has been a follow-up to our first “SharePoint and mobile Access” meeting.

Our first speaker has been my colleague Hartmut John. A few months ago Hartmut showed us how to create a mobile application that connects to SharePoint. This time Hartmut did the promised life-coding. He coded an iOS App that accessed a SharePoint list to store data. Think of a field manager who is visiting a customer and takes the customer’s order on a mobile device. After the order has been entered completely the mobile device is transferring the order details to a SharePoint list - where it can immediately processed.

I was very impressed by the way Hartmut did his life-coding - it just took a few minutes and the app had been deployed on an Apple iPad. And after another few minutes the  app was transferring data to a SharePoint. I wish SharePoint development could be that quick :-)

The second speaker has been Jörg Stappert (Country Manager harmin.ie Germany). Jörg showed us how to work with one document on several (mobile) devices. Think of this scenario: you are working on a presentation and you do this using your desktop PC. After a while you need to present your slides in a meeting. You just grab your tablet (a Microsoft Surface Pro, or whatever you prefer) and show the slides to your colleagues in the meeting. You even can even edit your presentation with your mobile device. Jörg also showed us, how important it is to gather important information, data and news to an individual news stream. In other words: Jörg showed us how our workplace might look in the future. Individual gathering of important information and data  - accessed with mobile devices everywhere and everytime. This can be done with harmon.ie for Outlook.

After the two sessions there had been plenty of time for discussions and tech talk - of course with delicious fingerfood and a SharePint :-)

You can find the slides of the two sessions attached to this article.
